Some British seaside towns have quietly modernised themselves out of being dog-friendly — glass-fronted seafront restaurants, hotels with "no pets, sorry" tucked into the small print, that sort of thing. Weston-super-Mare never really got the memo, and we mean that as a compliment. Donkey rides, a working Grand Pier, and a beach that still smells like a beach: it's old-school British seaside through and through, dogs very much included.

That said, "dog-friendly" doesn't mean "dogs everywhere, no rules" — so here's what's actually true, starting with the beach.

Where can dogs actually go on Weston-super-Mare beach?

Per North Somerset Council's official beach rules, it depends on exactly where you are on the sand:

• Between the Grand Pier and Royal Sands (the busiest central stretch) — dogs are not allowed from 1 May to 30 September, between 9am and 7pm. Outside those dates and times, they're permitted.
• Between the Grand Pier and Knightstone Island, and between Royal Sands and Uphill — dogs are allowed at any time, all year round.
• Sand Bay, a couple of miles north of the town centre, is dog-friendly at any time, all year round — genuinely one of the more reliably open beaches in the area.
• Weston Marine Lake is off-limits to dogs entirely, except guide or assistance dogs.
• On the promenade itself, dogs must be kept on a lead throughout.

In short: if you're visiting in peak summer and want to let your dog off-lead without watching the clock, Uphill and Sand Bay are your best bet — both are dog-friendly year-round with none of the central beach's seasonal daytime restriction.

As always with beach byelaws, signage on the day beats anything written here — councils do revisit these rules, so check the boards at the beach access points if you're visiting right at the edge of the season.

Where to stay with a dog in Weston-super-Mare

Here's the honest bit. We verify our pub listings in person or through trusted owner reports — we don't yet have that same verification system for accommodation. Everything below is what we've found through research, not a personally-checked list, and hotel and B&B dog policies tend to be more specific and more changeable than a pub's (extra fees, ground-floor-only rooms, size or breed limits, restrictions in dining areas). Please confirm directly with the venue before booking — especially anything involving a non-refundable rate.

Hotels. The one we can point to with real confidence is The Lauriston Hotel, on the seafront — its own website states plainly: "We are also a dog friendly hotel, and are happy to welcome you and your well-behaved canine companions!" That's a direct quote from the hotel itself, not a third-party listing site, which is about as solid as this kind of claim gets without us doing our own inspection. It doesn't publish specific fees or room restrictions on that page, so ask when you book.

B&Bs and guesthouses. Several smaller guesthouses around Weston turn up consistently across multiple accommodation-booking sites as dog-friendly, but we haven't independently confirmed any of them ourselves, so we're not going to name specific ones here and imply a confidence we don't have.

Self-catering. Cottages and apartments are often the most straightforwardly dog-friendly option — gardens, no shared dining room to worry about — but again, we haven't personally vetted specific properties.

Where to eat and drink while you're there

This part we can back up properly — these five are all verified on The Pub Hound, meaning someone has actually confirmed what they allow, not just repeated a claim from a website.

The Old Colonial and Brunello Lounge, both right on the Seafront, confirm the full set: dogs inside, garden, water bowls, treats, and a separate restaurant area. Revo Kitchen & Bar, also on the Seafront, matches them for the same complete verification.

Royal Hotel Bar, again right on the Seafront, confirms dogs inside, garden, water bowls, and treats — no separate restaurant area confirmed here, so it's more of a drink-and-snack stop than a sit-down meal.

The Imperial, on South Parade just off the seafront, confirms the same as the Royal Hotel Bar — dogs inside, garden, water bowls, treats.

Between the five of them you've got a proper stretch of seafront covered without ever walking more than a few minutes between options — genuinely one of the more pub-dense seafronts we've mapped.

How we verify this: every pub above has been checked in person or confirmed by a dog owner we trust, and each one's page shows exactly when. All five were last confirmed in July 2026.

The practical bits

Weston-super-Mare's seafront has multiple pay-and-display car parks directly behind the beach, and the promenade itself is flat, wide, and an easy walk end to end — allow 20 minutes or so to walk from the Grand Pier down towards Marine Lake and back at an easy pace, longer if you carry on to Uphill. Beach access points are signed along the seafront, and it's worth glancing at the noticeboards near each one — that's usually where the current seasonal restriction dates are posted, rather than relying purely on what's written here or anywhere else online.
